Aberlour
Established 1826
About the distillery
Named for the Gaelic phrase meaning "mouth of the chattering burn," Aberlour is built on the site of an ancient spring and known for its rich, double cask maturation. Renowned for being France's best-selling single malt.

Tamdhu
Established 1897
About the distillery
Tamdhu is another distillery built upon the crest of the whisky boom of the 1890s. Founded in 1897 by a group of blenders, the distillery has endured periods of closure throughout its history. Most recently in 2009 when the owners at that time (Edrington) did not put much effort into establishing it as a brand. That changed in 2011 when Ian Macleod Distillers purchased Tamdhu and since then we’ve seen a remarkable upswing in its fortunes. The purchase included maturing stock, so Ian Macleod was able to relaunch Tamdhu with a new steampunk visual look and an emphasis on sherry casks. Since this rebranding, sales have grown and a new level of appreciation has formed around this distillery, which is able to produce a sherried whisky as good as anywhere else.

This small Hebridean island is home to nine working distilleries, producing some of the world's boldest, smokiest, most passionately followed single malts. From ferociously peated Ardbeg to the milder smokiness of Caol Ila, Islay offers more variety than its peaty reputation suggests.

Islands Distilleries

Lowlands Distilleries
Light, floral, Lowlands grassy.
Scotland's most southerly whisky region produces some of the lightest, most elegant, and most approachable single malts in the country. Traditionally triple distilled, Lowland whiskies are known for their delicate notes of fresh grass, citrus, and gentle floral sweetness, with little to no peat influence. Once home to dozens of working distilleries, the region is now enjoying a genuine revival, alongside a growing appreciation for rare bottles from its many closed distilleries.

Campbeltown Distilleries
Briny, smoky, Campbeltown oily.
Once the whisky capital of the world, Campbeltown sits at the tip of the Kintyre Peninsula on Scotland's west coast and now produces just three distilleries — but what it lacks in numbers it more than makes up for in character. Springbank, Glengyle, and Glen Scotia each produce whiskies of remarkable individuality, with a distinctly briny, coastal complexity that is unique to this small but fiercely proud whisky town.
