International Wine and Spirits Competition 2014 - Outstanding
A landmark expression from The Balvenie, one of Speyside's most celebrated and traditional distilleries, the 21 Year Old Port Wood is widely regarded as one of the finest port-finished single malts ever produced. Under the expert guidance of Malt Master David Stewart — one of the most respected and longest-serving figures in the Scotch whisky industry — rare reserves of Balvenie were carefully selected and transferred to port casks for a further period of maturation, allowing the wine influence to weave its character gently through the whisky without overpowering the spirit's natural depth and elegance.
Twenty-one years of Speyside maturation have given this whisky remarkable complexity and refinement, and the port cask finish adds a vibrant layer of red fruit sweetness and gentle tannin that lifts and complements Balvenie's characteristic honeyed, vanilla richness beautifully. The result is a whisky of exceptional balance — one where the two phases of maturation feel completely integrated rather than in competition, a testament to David Stewart's meticulous selection and decades of experience.
Bottled at 40% ABV, the Port Wood 21 is smooth, approachable, and endlessly rewarding — a bottle that consistently draws praise from critics and collectors alike.
