This 2005 vintage Macallan was matured for 20 years before being bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 2025 as part of its long-running Speymalt from Macallan Distillery range.
Drawn entirely from refill sherry butt number 6867, this is a single-cask release bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.7% ABV. Just 661 bottles were produced, making it a particularly limited example of independently bottled Macallan.
Gordon & MacPhail has a longstanding relationship with Macallan and reserves the Speymalt name specifically for whisky from the distillery. The independent bottler purchases new-make spirit and matures it in oak casks selected for the range, with individual releases carrying both their distillation and bottling years.
After two decades in refill sherry wood, cask 6867 displays a mature fruit-led profile, with fruit cake, berries, orange and raisins alongside nuttier and spicier notes. Its combination of age, single-cask provenance and cask-strength presentation makes this a noteworthy release for enthusiasts of independently bottled Macallan and established Gordon & MacPhail releases.
