Distilled at Talisker's iconic distillery on the rugged western shores of Skye, established in 1830, this expression was traditionally matured for 18 years in oak casks and distilled in 3 unique stills with traditional worm tubs — a production method that contributes to Talisker's distinctively bold, maritime character. Bottled at 45.8% ABV under the distillery's famous "Made by the Sea" motto, this is a whisky that captures the wild, elemental spirit of the Isle of Skye in every glass.
Colour
Colour: Deep amber gold, rich and warming.
Nose
Nose: Complex and inviting, with maritime brine and sea salt, layered with rich dried fruit, honey, and a gentle drift of peat smoke. Hints of black pepper and warming spice develop with time in the glass.
Palate
Palate: Full and richly flavoured, opening with honeyed sweetness and dried fruit, before Talisker's trademark peppery spice and coastal smokiness take hold. Notes of toasted oak and a subtle sweetness balance the bold maritime character throughout.
Finish
Long, warming, and satisfying, with a lingering peppery heat, sea salt, and a final wisp of gentle peat smoke.
Talisker
Founded 1830
Situated on the Isle of Skye, Talisker was established in 1830 although illicit distilling was commonplace in this remote location. For many years it was the only distillery on the island, but this has changed in recent times. It remains a classic example of an island whisky and has a staunch fanbase in spite of some variable releases in recent times. As one of the Classic Malts from Diageo, its single malt presence is sizeable and with a recent rebrand and considerable investment in the site as a tourist attraction, we can expect even more Talisker. Featuring a strong maritime influence combined with peat, the distillery still uses worm tubs that are cooled by seawater. The site was the location of Scotland’s last great distillery fire in 1960, when a valve on the spirit still was not closed properly, prompting a massive rebuild that took 2 years.
