The GlenAllachie 19 Year Old Ex-Solera Sherry Cask Matured is the second release in the distillery's acclaimed Masters of Wood series, a collection showcasing some of the rarest and most distinctive casks sourced by Master Distiller Billy Walker.
For this exceptional release, the whisky was initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred into an exceptionally small selection of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks that had spent more than 55 years as part of traditional Spanish solera systems. Casks of this pedigree are seldom removed from active soleras, making them among the rarest sherry casks available for Scotch whisky maturation.
Bottled at 50% ABV, with natural colour and no chill filtration, this 19-year-old single malt captures the remarkable influence of these venerable casks. Layers of rich dried fruit, dark chocolate, warming spice and GlenAllachie's signature honeyed character combine to create a whisky of impressive depth and texture.
Presented in distinctive packaging inspired by the traditional solera ageing process, this limited-edition release is an outstanding addition to the Masters of Wood series and an enticing choice for collectors and lovers of richly sherried Speyside single malts.
Colour
Intense mahogany.
Nose
Brandied plum, intense mocha and honeycomb, with caramel snaps, molasses tart and rich cocoa.
Palate
Plum syrup, treacle and warmed heather honey, followed by black cherries, mocha and brandied orchard fruits, with crystallised cinnamon and ginger.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering cocoa, dark fruits, baking spice and treacle sweetness.
