Named for the moment in 1263 when the ancestor of Clan Mackenzie saved King Alexander III from a charging stag with a single arrow — an act rewarded with the right to bear a stag's head in the clan coat of arms, alongside the motto "Help the King." Every bottle of Dalmore carries this noble emblem, a twelve-point royal stag's head, in tribute to a distillery long owned by the Mackenzie family.
King Alexander III is Dalmore's most elaborate expression of cask craftsmanship, the result of marrying whisky from six distinct cask types — aromatic Oloroso and Madeira butts, rich Port and Marsala wood, aged bourbon barrels, and Sauvignon barriques. The result is a layered, richly complex single malt that showcases Dalmore's mastery of multi-cask maturation in a single glass.

Deep, rich amber gold.
Nose
Opulent and complex, with dried fruit, dark chocolate, and Madeira sweetness, layered with spiced oak, red berry fruit, and a delicate winey character from the Sauvignon and Marsala casks.
Palate
Full and richly layered, opening with dried fruit and toffee, developing into notes of dark chocolate, warm spice, and a subtle winey fruitiness from the varied cask influences.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering spice, dried fruit, and a final note of rich, sweet oak.
Dalmore
Founded 1839
Today, Dalmore is a remarkably impressive and successful distillery. Iconic branding and the use of various casks ensures a luxurious image and price tag. Its history is just as impressive with the commonly believed date of 1839 being when it was founded by Alexander Matheson. Looking across towards the Black Isle, the distillery is on the outskirts of Alness and today comprises a large site of various buildings and warehousing. Dalmore has been a prized commodity and the distillery has endured several owners and was purchased by Filipino group, Emperador, in 2014 as part of the Whyte & Mackay acquisition. What endures most about the distillery is the unique still set up, which upon visiting, harbours a mix match of shapes and sizes, plus the spirit stills that are cooled by water jackets. If you do visit, then try to see the old hunting lodge room about the visitor centre that is used to entertain and impress VIPs.
