A landmark bottle in the story of Islay whisky. The Ardnahoe Inaugural Release marks the first official single malt to emerge from Islay's newest distillery — and one of the most eagerly anticipated debut expressions in recent Scottish whisky history. Founded in 2018 by Hunter Laing & Company on the dramatic north-eastern shores of Islay, overlooking the Sound of Islay and the Paps of Jura, Ardnahoe has been one of the most watched new distilleries in Scotland, and this 5-year-old inaugural release is the moment whisky enthusiasts have been waiting for.
Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 50% ABV without artificial colouring or chill-filtration, this is a whisky that makes a bold and confident first impression. The combination of bourbon and sherry oak delivers a well-rounded, layered character that belies the spirit's young age — a testament to both the quality of Ardnahoe's new make spirit and the influence of Islay's unique coastal environment on the maturation process.
As the distillery's first official release, this is a bottle of genuine historical significance — the opening chapter of what promises to be a compelling long-term whisky story from one of Islay's most exciting new producers. Bottles are limited, and as word spreads, they will not remain available for long.
Ardnahoe
Founded 2018
Islay’s latest distillery (until the next one) sprang into life in October 2018 and is situated at the northern end of the island, near Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila. The dream project of the Hunter Laing group, headed by Stewart Laing and his two sons. To assist their vision, they brought in Jim McEwan, formerly of Bruichladdich, to design the stills and help create the distillate.
