A rare and exceptional single cask Ardbeg, distilled on 12th September 2012 and left to mature undisturbed for a full decade in a single first-fill charred red wine hogshead before being bottled on 3rd October 2022 at 56% ABV. Just 295 individually numbered bottles were yielded from cask No.4046, making this one of the most limited and collectible single cask Islay releases available.
The cask choice is what makes this expression particularly compelling. A first-fill charred red wine hogshead is an unusual and exciting vessel for an Ardbeg single cask — the deep char of the cask adding layers of toasted oak and vanilla, while the residual red wine influence weaves a vibrant thread of dark berry fruit and gentle tannins through the whisky's core. Set against Ardbeg's trademark coastal peat smoke and maritime intensity, the result is a single cask of genuine complexity and character — a bottling where two very different flavour worlds collide in the most rewarding way.
At 56% ABV from a single cask, this is Ardbeg in its most raw and uncompromising form. A small drop of water will open up the full range of aromas and flavours, though it more than rewards those bold enough to take it neat.
Perfect for: Ardbeg collectors, Islay whisky enthusiasts, and single cask hunters seeking a rare, limited-edition expression with a genuinely distinctive red wine cask influence.
